Wendy Osefo once gave a heartfelt interview about a house robbery that took place in 2024. Police now claim she used it to defraud insurance companies.
A clip from a September 2024 sit-down on the Gaving With Give podcast has resurfaced, in which the Real Housewives of Potomac star said she was “very heartbroken” over the robbery charges.
She claimed that the April 2024 incident happened while she and her family were on a spring break vacation in Jamaica, shortly before cameras resumed on Season 9 of the Bravo series.
“I think some of the first, first scenes were a little bit unsettling because we had just been violated, so to speak,” Osefo, now 41, said upon his return to reality TV after the robbery charges.
“That was the worst thing. It was so unexpected, especially from my point of view and from the investigators’ point of view, because that was the target.”
The businesswoman said she has lived in her neighborhood for 20 years and has never experienced a robbery before, which is why she felt the suspects were looking for her.
“The first thing I thought about was my children. One of the reasons I live where I live now is for their safety and to have enough acres for them to run and play and have fun without doing anything,” she added.
“I’m just glad we’re safe. We’re safe and we’re able to move on from it as a family. But oh, it was definitely heartbreaking.”
In an interview, Osefo claimed the experience had changed his lifestyle, saying he had increased security at his home to resemble Fort Knox and was careful about what he posted online.
However, it was reportedly the Bravo star’s social media activity that caught the attention of police.
After the alleged robbery, husband Edward “Eddie” Osefo filed claims with two insurance companies and amended one of the reports to claim his wife’s gold diamond commemorative band was missing.
The change in the report raised red flags for authorities, especially since Wendy was later spotted via social media appearing to wear the same ring at an event, according to court documents.
They also flagged other suspicious findings, including that the couple had set up a home alarm system before leaving on their trip, but “no movement was detected within the home” during the alleged break-in afterwards.
Additionally, police reportedly discovered that many of the “stolen” items were returned to the store and “full refunds were issued prior to the alleged robbery.”
According to court documents, Eddie and Wendy signed a statement claiming $450,000 in personal property losses.
As a result of the investigation, Wendy and Eddie were arrested Thursday on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements to a police officer.
They were then released on a $50,000 bond each on Friday.
