Variety exclusively reported that Mae Martin has signed a first-look deal with Netflix.
Under the deal, Martin will continue to develop and produce television series for the streaming giant, while the deal also includes new stand-up specials.
“Over the past seven years, I’ve been fortunate to develop a supportive and creatively empowering relationship at Netflix that has allowed my story (and my weird jokes about things like snow globes) to reach a global audience,” Martin said. “I’m so grateful to continue this relationship. This vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well. I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been building.”
Martin first collaborated with Netflix on the semi-autobiographical series “Feel Good.” Martin played fictional versions of themselves on the show, which ran for two seasons and received critical acclaim. The cast also included Charlotte Richie, Lisa Kudrow, Phil Bergers, and Adrienne Lukis. Martin then released his stand-up special “SAP” on Netflix in 2023.
Most recently, Martin created, wrote, and starred in the 2025 Netflix limited series “Wayward.” The show, which also included Oscar nominee Toni Collette in the cast, investigated dark secrets buried in a small Vermont town that houses a school for troubled teens. The show premiered at TIFF and spent five weeks on the Netflix Global Top 10 chart.
“May is a unique individual who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything she does,” said Daniel Woodrow, Content Director, Netflix Canada. “We are thrilled with Wayward’s success and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.”
Martin is repped by CAA and Origin publicists Curtis Brown and Ziffren Brittenham.
