Former Disney Channel stars Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez were both nominated for last night’s Golden Globe Awards, and their reunion during the show made headlines. They posed together and, unsurprisingly, the photo quickly went viral on social media.

Cyrus and Gomez have supported each other for years. Gomez went viral in June when she reposted a photo of former star Hannah Montana wearing a Valentino leopard-print dress on Instagram. “Icon,” Gomez captioned the photo.
As a child, Gomez played Cyrus’ rival pop singer Mikayla on Hannah Montana.
At last night’s Globe Awards, the two stars competed in separate categories. Gomez was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) for her work in Only Murders in the Building. Meanwhile, Cyrus won the Movie Award for Best Original Song for her song “Dream As One” from “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
Cyrus recently teased that she’s planning “something really, really special” for Hannah Montana’s 20th anniversary in March, but it’s still unclear whether Gomez will be participating. (Gomez recently reprized her star-making role on Disney Channel in the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot.)
Cyrus touched on the project in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month. “We were really talking about Hannah Montana’s anniversary, everything that’s come before, and we really took the time to honor it,” she said.
Last night’s reunion between the two stars was one of the most high-profile in years, but they also shared a moment in 2020 when Gomez revealed her bipolar disorder diagnosis on Cyrus’ Instagram Live show, Bright Minded.
She praised her former co-star, telling Cyrus: “I think you’re one of the greatest singers of all time, and I was so happy to even have the opportunity to talk to you about some of the greatest people.”
