Joshua (Josh) Berger has joined Two Daughters Entertainment’s board of directors as a non-executive director and strategic advisor.
With this appointment, one of the most experienced executives in the British entertainment industry joins the company as it expands beyond its television roots into programming and global IP.
The direct catalyst is the company’s theatrical debut, “The Land of Sometime,” which is scheduled to be released in theaters around the world this spring. In addition, Two Daughters is working toward greenlighting a second feature while developing a broader original animated property. This is a significant step forward in ambition for the company founded by James Reatchlous in 2016.
Two Daughters built its reputation with the animated feature “Moley,” which started as a half-hour special and reached audiences in 30 languages and 180 countries through distribution partnerships including Peacock in the U.S. and Youku/iQiyi in China.
“Sometimes in the Land” brings together a distinguished cast and creative team. The voice cast includes Ewan McGregor, Mel Brooks, and Helena Bonham Carter, and original music and lyrics were provided by Tim Rice, who won an Academy Award for “The Lion King.” The film is directed by Leon Juessen, whose credits include “Saving Santa.” Executive producers include Bonnie Arnold, a veteran of Toy Story and How to Train Your Dragon, as well as the late Alan Yentob, the BBC figure who worked on Billy Elliot with Mr Richaras and CEO Simon Bobin.
Mr. Berger spent 31 years at Warner Bros. Entertainment, rising to president and managing director of the company’s UK, Ireland and Spain operations, and later was responsible for developing the Harry Potter franchise worldwide. This role placed him at the center of one of the entertainment industry’s most lucrative IP empires. He was also instrumental in the studio’s acquisition of Leavesden Studios and the development of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.
Mr Berger was appointed CBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honors for his contribution to the UK’s creative industries. Beyond Warner Bros., he was a prominent figure in British culture, serving as a former president and director of the British Film Institute and a former director of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He is currently Founder and Chairman of Battersea Entertainment and Chairman of the Board of Brit School. His producing credits include serving as executive producer on Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, the Broadway musical Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of Temptation, and Fantastic Beasts and Dumbledore’s Secrets.
“Two Daughters” Entertainment is entering an exciting new chapter. With its first feature released, a strong foundation behind it, and clear ambitions to build a lasting global IP, this is a company with momentum, creative integrity, and real heart. “Moley is already a distinctive international brand and James and Simon have brought together an impressive team and vision. I am delighted to be joining the board at such an important time and to support the company’s continued growth.”
“Josh joining our board at this moment means so much to us,” said Leechlas. “His experience growing world-class IP and navigating global franchises will be invaluable as we complete our first feature, greenlight our next feature, and continue to develop exciting originals. We are thrilled to welcome him to Two Daughters.”
Simon Bobin, CEO of Two Daughters Entertainment, added: “Josh is one of the most respected leaders in the global entertainment industry. His insight into building premium franchises, growing international business and supporting creative ambitions comes at the right time for Two Daughters. His guidance will be a great asset to the company as we expand our film slate and IP portfolio.”
