Walter Salles, the Brazilian director behind the Oscar-winning 2024 drama “I’m Still Here,” will showcase the screening of “Secret Agent” at the Academy Museum’s Film Museum to launch the Bravo Film Festival on October 19th.

From fellow Brazilian director Clever Mendonmun Phillo, “The Secret Agent” is a historic political thriller held in 1977 at the turn of Brazil’s military dictatorship. It follows a teacher who is caught up in national chaos during the carnival and returns to his hometown of Recife, but the fight is not far from his heels.

The film was the most decorated feature at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and won the Fipresci International Critics Award for Best Film. The film received a 13-minute standing ovation.

After Cannes, Neon acquires North American distribution rights for “Secret Agent” and releases it in theaters on November 26th. Vitrin films were released in Brazil, Vitham was released in France, and Mbi won the rights in the UK, Ireland, Hispanic America and India.

“The Secret Agent” is one of six Brazilian films in the Best International Feature category at the 98th Academy Awards, and will receive a campaign for Best Picture, Director, Actor and more.

The Academy Museum screening marks the premiere of “Secret Agent” Los Angeles, with Q&A following Mendon Saffilho and producer Emily Les Crok. Since Cannes, the film meets at warm receptions at the Telluride and Toronto International Film Festivals, and soon wins a fest ahead of the New York Film Festival, San Sebastian Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival and theatrical performances.
