Veteran film sales executive Torsten Ritter is leaving Beta Cinema after more than 13 years as vice president of acquisitions, sales and marketing at the Munich-based company. Ritter is leaving the company to “take on new professional challenges,” Beta said in a statement.

Ritter has over 30 years of experience in the international film industry. He began his career as co-founder and co-director of Oldenburg International Airport. Before joining the Bavarian Film Institute, he joined the film festival, where, as head of marketing and later as managing director, he oversaw campaigns for acclaimed films such as Nowhere in Africa, Goodbye, Lenin!, Head On, Sophie Scholl – The Last Days and Let the Right One In.

Since joining the company in 2012, Ritter has “played a key role in shaping Beta Cinema’s international strategy and contributed to the global success of numerous films including Child’s Pose, Jack, Sandstorm, The Happy Prince, Never Look Away, Styx, Caliber, Women at War, System Crasher, and Nowhere Special,” Beta said. “I Am Your Man”, “Last Night”, “With Love, Hilde”, “William Tell” and most recently “Amrum”.

“It has been a great honor to accompany so many great films on their journey into the world of cinema, with such a dedicated and supportive team. I am deeply grateful to (Beta Cinema CEO) Dirk Schulhoff for giving me the opportunity to bring my passion for content-driven collaborations with producers and filmmakers to Beta Cinema. And along the way, I have discovered the unexpected joys of sales. I feel it is the right time to begin a new chapter,” said Ritter.

Schulhoff added: “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Torsten Ritter for his exceptional cooperation, great dedication, loyalty and substantial contribution over many years. We had a great time working with him and I wish him the best for his personal and professional future.”

“With extensive experience in acquisitions, sales, marketing, festivals and financing, Mr. Ritter continues to maintain close ties with the European film industry and looks forward to new projects and collaborations,” Beta said.
