Uri Singer’s Passage Pictures has taken the rights to Emily Gray Tedrowe’s cult hit novel, The Talented Miss Farwell.
It is described as “Catch Me You Can.” Having come across a female-centric version of “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” the book is inspired by the true story of a woman who seized the biggest municipal scam in US history, embezzling $50 million over a period of more than 20 years. Among them, Becky Farwell, a small-town Illinois accountant and mathematics genius, lives a double life as a wealthy art collector in New York City.
“Becky Farwell is one of the most morally complicated yet strangely sympathetic con artists in modern fiction,” Singer said in a statement. “This story and its flawed characters are absolutely made for the film. We’re extremely excited to bring this back to life on screen.”
The rights to the book were previously obtained by Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine.
The credited singer, including Noah Bambach’s “White Noise,” produces adaptations through passage photographs for his company. Some of Passage Pictures’ upcoming projects include Don Delilo’s “Underworld” adaptation with the writing and director of Ted Melfi (“The Hidden Person”), and James Elroy’s adaptation with Amazon/MGM. He is also creating a black list script, “Paparazzo.” Singer’s previous works include several Michael Almereida films, all premiered at Sundance, including “Tesla” and “Marjorie Prime.” He also produces Corporate Retreat, an American horror thriller directed by Aaron Fisher. It stars Lily Krug, Rosanna Alkett, Ashton Sanders, Simona Tabasco, Odeja Rush, Alan Luck and Sasha Lane.
The singer is represented by Knol Hanly PC. Tedrowe is represented by Gersh on behalf of JVNLA’s Alice Tasman.
