“God of War” has found the god of thunder.
“Severance” star Ólafur Dari Ólafsson has been cast as Thor in Amazon Prime Video’s TV version of the popular PlayStation video game. The series follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother Faye. Traveling through the ancient world, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, and Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better man.
According to Olafsson’s character description, “God of Thunder is a mountain of a man who has survived many battles, but is haunted by the time when his actions in wars fought long ago now occur. Once a loyal soldier of Asgard and his father’s right-hand man, Thor Now a mere shadow of his former self, he drowns in alcohol and tries not to think about the price he has paid. With his wife and children at arm’s length, his feelings only deepen.”Although isolated, the power (and danger) of the God of Thunder still exists beneath the surface. ”
Olafsson joins previously announced cast members Ryan Hurst (Kratos), Max Parker (Heimdall), and Teresa Palmer (Sif).
Two seasons of “God of War” have been ordered on Amazon, and pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver. Ronald D. Moore is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series under his Tall Ship Productions banner. The show is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Other executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Kizilbash, Jeff Ketchum, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Aragon. Joe Menosky, Mark Bernardin, Tania Lottier and Ben McGinnis are co-executive producers on the series.
