Donald Trump has announced that he will award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Freedom Medal after he was assassinated while speaking on a university campus in Utah.
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a freedom champion and an inspiration for millions of people,” Trump gave a 9/11 memorable speech at the Pentagon Thursday morning. “We miss him a lot, but there’s no doubt that the courage he puts in the hearts of Charlie and the innumerable people, especially the young people, will continue to live out.”
The Freedom Medal is considered the highest civilian honor in the United States for those who make extraordinary contributions to world peace, national security, or America’s cultural efforts. In his first term, Trump served as presidential Medal of Freedom, giving iconic Elvis Presley, Supreme Court Judge Antonin Scalia, golf legend Tiger Woods, conservative radio pioneer Rush Limbaugh and more. The 31-year-old media personality discussed students on various political topics when the bullet hit his neck, and his security rushed him to the hospital. Graphic videos of the shooting have spread on social media, with politicians from both sides of the aisle sharing prayers for Kirk, who is believed to have shook the youngster vote in the 2024 election.
About 90 minutes after Kirk was shot dead, Trump announced that he had been true socially dead, saying, “The great and legendary Charlie Kirk is dead. He doesn’t understand the hearts of the youth of the United States more than Charlie, or in particular, me, especially me, and now he is not loved with us.
As of Thursday morning, the shooters are still massive as the FBI and several local law enforcement agencies are investigating the assassination.
