Rael Tucker, a writer and producer whose credits include True Blood, Jessica Jones, and Supernatural, is set to publish her debut novel titled Obscura.
This science fiction story asks, “What if everything we’ve been taught to pretend was actually real?” According to the logline: “Obscura Island is famous for its beaches, drugs, and hedonistic clubs. But the northern tip of the island hides a secret community filled with magical beings, unicorns, centaurs, and mermen, and it’s the only place on Earth where these creatures can be themselves. Refuge. When Artemis, a local drug dealer and daughter of its founder, is tired of following the rules and spots a human on the street, she decides to save him, but will this one act of defiance burn down everything she holds dear? ”
Tucker has spent much of his career working in science fiction. She wrote the scripts for the first two seasons of The CW’s demon-hunting adventure series “Supernatural,” and then joined “True Blood” as a writer and producer. She then served as a writer and executive producer on Season 2 of “Jessica Jones” before creating her first original series “Sacred Lies” on Facebook Watch. The show lasted two seasons before being acquired by Peacock. In 2023, he co-developed the Amazon Prime Video series “The Power,” based on the novel by Naomi Alderman.
UTA, which represents Mr. Tucker, has signed a two-book deal with Amy Einhorn at Crown (Penguin Random House). The agreement includes a seven-figure preemption of U.S. rights.
