Mike Smith, who starred as Bubbles on the cult classic comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Smith was charged on Oct. 2 for an assault that occurred on Dec. 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, according to documents filed in Nova Scotia court obtained by the outlet.
Smith’s representatives and attorneys did not immediately respond to Variety’s requests for comment.
Production company Trailer Park Boys told CBC in a statement that it was “aware of the allegations regarding Mike Smith” and confirmed that he has “resigned” from his role as executive director of the company.
“We understand how difficult allegations of this nature can be for everyone involved,” the statement said. “Out of respect for the legal process, we will refrain from commenting further on this matter.”
Smith made up one-third of the main trio of “Trailer Park Boys,” along with John Paul Tremblay and Rob Wells. The mockumentary comedy premiered on the Canadian television network Showcase in 2001 and was picked up by Netflix in 2014. “Trailer Park Boys” ran for 116 episodes and spawned numerous movies and spin-off series. The show follows Julian (Tremblay), Bubbles (Smith) and Ricky (Wells), three trouble-making trailer park residents who inexplicably become the subjects of a documentary about their lives.
“Trailer Park Boys” Season 13 recently wrapped production in August. Set to stream on the recently launched TPB+ streaming service, the 13th season is scheduled to debut in April 2026, coinciding with the show’s 25th anniversary.
