Amazon Prime Video’s live-action Tomb Raider series is preparing for filming.

The adaptation of the video game franchise series is scheduled to begin production on January 19, 2026. Additionally, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed for the first time that Sophie Turner will be appearing in the series as Lara Croft. The show was originally greenlight on Prime Video in May 2024, with Turner’s involvement first reported in November of that year. The show was first reported in January 2023 as being in development on streamers.

As previously reported, Phoebe Waller Bridge will serve as the creator, writer and executive producer of the series. But now, Chad Hodge is on the show alongside Waller Bridge as an executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tarken will serve as director and executive producer.

“We are very excited to be introducing the scary Sophie Turner as Lala with this incredible creative team,” Wallerbridge said. “I don’t often do shows on this scale with the characters you grew up with. Everyone on board is very passionate about Lara, and is as outrageous, brave and hilarious as her.

Turner is the latest famous actress to take on the role of Croft. The Globetrotting adventurer was previously portrayed on screen in two films by Angelina Jolie and another by Alicia Vikander.

“I’m more than measured and excited to play Lara Croft,” added Turner. “She’s such an iconic character, and means so many. I’m giving everything I have. They continue to perform in Angelina and Alicia’s powerhouse and are at the helm of Phoebe, so we (and Lara) are holding a very safe hand.

This series is an executive of: Crystal dynamics. Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins via Wells Street Productions. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson Stevenson. Michael Seal; Hodge; Van Zurreken; legendary television. The series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios. The “Tomb Raider” series was developed under an agreement between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. This will develop additional “Tomb Raider” stories into the series and films via an initial appearance agreement with Story Kitchen studios.

“Lara Croft is one of the most famous and iconic video game characters of all time,” said Vernon Sanders, global television director at Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios. “We are excited to bring this character back to life, defined by her courage, strength and unwavering resolve. The series celebrates the legacy of her beloved “Tomb Raider” while bringing fresh adventures to fans around the world. ”

Hodge’s recent writing credits include the films Single The All the Way and The Darkest Minds and the TV series Good Behavior. He previously created shows such as “Wayward Pines,” “The Playboy Club,” and “Runaway.” Van Tulleken previously directed episodes of “The General,” “The Dope Thief,” “Upload,” and “Top Boy.”
