Tom Hanks’ son Chet Hanks is stranded in Colombia.
“Are you ready for story time?” Chet said in an Instagram video he shared on Friday that he traveled to Puerto Rico last week for “Max’s birthday party back home” and “had a great time.”
The “Running Point” actor, who is the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, explained that he decided to take a detour to Medellin to visit a friend named Taylor.
“Sounds good, right?” he said while talking to fans. “Let’s check this out.”
The actor and musician wore a black Los Angeles Dodgers ballcap, black shirt, and chunky chain-link necklace for the video, but then shared how the situation took a stressful turn.
“I’m a dual citizen, so I’m traveling on my Greek passport,” he said, adding that he didn’t use his U.S. passport because it was due to expire. “Even if it hasn’t expired and is about to expire, you may not be allowed to enter the country.”
He continued, “I’m going to the airport three hours early to check in for my flight.”
“This is an international flight. I was told that if I was using a foreign passport, I would need a green card to return to the United States.”
The incredulous “Surreal Life” alum explained that “I’m literally trapped in Colombia. I’m trapped in Medellin” because “I’m an American citizen and I don’t have a green card.”
He added: “Certainly there are worse places to get stuck, but I literally have no idea what to do and the only embassy that can help me with this problem is in Bogotá.”
“I don’t want to go to Bogota,” Chet said, which is about an hour’s flight from Medellin, “so I want him to be free.”
Chet’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for additional comment on Saturday.
Followers took to the comments thread to offer advice, jokes and sympathy. One person wrote, “You better call someone in your family and have them FedEx your passport ASAP,” while another replied, “Tom Hanks is not good with FedEx.” This is a reference to the iconic scene in the Oscar-winning film Cast Away in which Tom Hanks takes a FedEx plane and crashes on a deserted island.
A third joked: “It’s time to start a family 😂,” while a fourth quipped: “You should have pulled the ‘Dad…’ card once.”
Still, some were amused by Chet’s declaration that he did not have a green card. “I’m crying because I’m an American citizen and I don’t have a green card 😂,” one Instagram user chimed in.
Chet, 35, seemed to be making the most of his predicament. On Friday, the rapper shared a clip via his Instagram Story of a dance club with revelers dancing amidst laser lights and fog.
The influencer is the eldest of the two sons of the Da Vinci Code and Mamma Mia! actors. The actresses, both 69, have previously been open about their battles with drug use. In 2024, he marked two years of sobriety.
It seems like his father hasn’t helped him with his Columbia woes just yet, but Tom once told Page Six how he helped him prepare for his role opposite Kate Hudson in Running Point.
“He just said, ‘If you know your lines, show up on time and be nice to everyone, it’ll work out,'” he revealed to Us in March 2025.
