What you need to know
Tom Brady’s son Benjamin Lane shows off his driving skills as father and son exchange life lessons.
The retired NFL player, 48, gave his 16-year-old son with ex-wife Gisele Bundchen a spin behind the wheel in a new video for his Carvervation series in partnership with Instagram.
At one point, Benjamin asked his father, who has son John “Jack” Edward Thomas, 18, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, and daughter Vivian Lake, 13, with Bündchen, what he “learned the most” from becoming a parent.
“I think it’s about learning to really be with your child,” said Brady, who affectionately calls her son “Benny” in the video. “You have to be the person you want your children to be… It’s also about practicing what you preach, you know?”
“You guys will probably learn more from me just by watching than by anything I say. So I think that forces me to hold myself to very high standards and responsibility, for example,” he added.
The former footballer revealed that it was one of the lessons his father taught him and that he wanted to pass on to his children, as well as helping them shape their “ambition” and take them where they need to go.
“…I want to be a great example, but I want to be there for you. I want to be there and listen. I want to be there and encourage you,” he explained. “I’d like to be there to support you too, okay?”
“I want to watch you and support you in that way because I know you don’t have all the answers,” he continued. “Yeah, and I’ll be there when you fail. I’ll be there when you succeed. All I really care about is that you guys do your best and always do your best.”
He then illustrated this by putting his son in the passenger seat and giving him some time to drive. However, things didn’t start so smoothly as Benjamin, who was still learning how to drive, forgot to close the driver’s door completely. After correcting the mistake, the pair started moving.
Elsewhere in the chat, the father of three asked the teen what “Brady Family Values” he had learned over the years, to which his son replied, “You’ve literally drilled it into my head… being cool means being considerate.”
“Cool people are people who care. And literally every time you say that to me, I hear that voice in my sleep. It’s kind of scary,” Benjamin added with a laugh.
“Do you feel like you applied that?” Brady asked him.
“I feel the same way. You can’t be 100% perfect all the time, but being perfect means you can learn from your mistakes and grow from your mistakes,” Benjamin said.
Brady added in a proud father’s moment. “Every time I get in the car with you, I always feel like I’ve taken something away, just learning more about who you are and how proud I am of you and watching you grow…To see you as a newborn child and then to see you and know that every step of the way, being there for that journey is the most meaningful aspect of my life.”

“The best thing about you is that you don’t have to be any different from who you are. You are perfect, just the way God made you,” he said.
At the end of the drive, Brady praised her youngest son’s driving skills, telling him, “He was a good driver. Well done. I love him so much.”
“I love you too,” Benjamin added.
