TLC singer Rozonda “Chili” Thomas has clarified that she is not a supporter of Donald Trump after donating to the president’s campaign and resharing conspiracies about Michelle Obama.
“I want to be clear: I am not MAGA and I do not support many of the policies that are causing so much harm to the American people,” the “No Scrubs” singer wrote on Instagram on Saturday.
Regarding her donation, she added, “I made the mistake that a lot of people make: I didn’t read the fine print. I thought I was supporting an anti-trafficking movement and a cause for veterans.”
Thomas, 55, said he loves children and cares deeply about his father, a veteran.
“I have learned a valuable lesson and I ask for grace as I move through this situation,” she concluded, “Love you, Chili 💕.”
Records obtained by The Independent show that Mr. Thomas donated to MAGA affiliates during Mr. Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Records show the donations include $210.60 to Republican fundraising platform WinRed, $486.54 to Trump-affiliated Never Surrender Inc. and $340.60 to Trump National Committee JFC.
Additionally, after the “Creep” singer allegedly reshared the former first lady’s gender conspiracy video, she shared another video saying she “has the utmost respect for Obama.”
“I would never say or do anything disrespectful to her or any other woman,” Thomas added.
“I had no idea it had been reposted until I started getting calls and messages from people, and I immediately went to my page to see what was going on,” Thomas said.
The actress claimed that she is not very “tech savvy” and that Instagram’s share, like and repost buttons are all “very close.”
“Obviously, I was scrolling and my thumb hit the repost button,” she added, explaining that she also supported former President Barack Obama in his 2008 and 2012 campaigns.
Thomas insisted, “I support the organization that Michelle ran for children’s sports at school.”
Several people came to the hitmaker’s defense, with one commenting that she often reposts content by mistake, writing, “This happens all the time! Instagram needs to remove that repost button.”
“I’ve reposted it wrong so many times. I believe her,” a second person chimed in.
Representatives for Mr. Trump could not be reached for comment by Page Six.
