Timothée Chalamet wins Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy

Timothée Chalamet won his first career Golden Globe for his role as a hustling table tennis prodigy in the rousing comedy “Marty Supreme.”

Chalamet has been nominated four times in the past for his breakout roles in “Call Me By Your Name,” the addiction drama “Beautiful Boy,” the musical comedy “Wonka” and last year’s Bob Dylan biopic “Completely Unknown,” but he has never won. Those losses made it all the more meaningful to finally take home the acting award at Sunday night’s ceremony, he said.

“My father taught me the spirit of gratitude from an early age: ‘Always be grateful for what you have,'” Chalamet said. “But I’d be lying if I said those moments didn’t make this moment any less sweet.”

Directed by Josh Safdie, “Marty Supreme” follows the fictional Marty Moser as he goes through the wringer to pursue his dream of becoming a table tennis champion. Chalamet thanked the director and his co-stars, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa Azion, Tyler Okonma, Fran Drescher and Kevin O’Leary.

“Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role. Thank you for believing in me,” Chalamet continued in his speech. “To A24 and Ronnie Bronstein, who co-wrote this movie with Josh, and to the amazing cast of this movie. If you had told me when I was 19 years old that I would appreciate Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank…”

When O’Leary, who plays a shrewd businessman in “Marty Supreme,” smiled, Chalamet let out a laugh and told the “Shark Tank” star: After completing his earlier train of thought, Chalamet said: “I would have been stunned, but very grateful.”

Beyond his starring role, Chalamet has been a one-man marketing machine, putting in a lot of effort and effort to spread the word about the original film. He has captured the attention of the social media masses by gifting his famous friends with 1950s-style windbreakers, flying around the country in a Nickelodeon Orange blimp, and climbing to the top of the Sphere in Las Vegas. With all the promotional efforts paying off, “Marty Supreme” has grossed $84 million at the worldwide box office, and that number continues to grow.

Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy against George Clooney (Jay Kelly), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Byung-hun Lee (No Other Choice), and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia). Despite the competition, Chalamet said in a speech that “this category is stacked,” he is the front-runner to win the Globes after receiving worldwide acclaim and winning pioneering awards at awards shows such as Critics’ Choice.

During his speech at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Chalamet made headlines for shouting out a shoutout to his longtime girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

While accepting the Best Actor trophy, he said, “Thank you to my partner of three years. I love you. I couldn’t have done this without you.” “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Chalamet ended his Globes speech with another nod to Jenner and her family: “To my parents and my partner, I love you. Thank you so much.”
