Tim Heidecker and Eric Werheim experimenting with a new genre of “Tim and Eric Great Show, Great Job!” by Adult Swim. Heidecker revealed at the premiere of “He” Wednesday that he and Wareheim are currently writing horror scripts.
When asked if there is a future “Tim and Eric” project in the pipeline, Heidecker replied, “We’re actually writing horror films that get you far more sick than most people want to see.”
Given that Tim and Eric are off-key, profane, and are actually known for their sometimes-a-sick sense of humor, it makes sense that their efforts in different genres also impose boundaries. Heidecker is sparse about the details about the project and did not provide any further comment on the plot, tone, or development stage, but he candidly states, “We’ll see if it’s going to be made or not.”
Despite his comedy roots, Heidecker is already developing horror films in front of the camera. In “He,” director Justin Chip’s new sports horror thriller, High Decker plays the quarterback protagonist agent. He also played a prominent role in “We” in Jordan Pier in 2019. Peel served as the producer of “He” and proved his interest in the genre.
At the premiere, Heidecker said, “I’m not a big terrifying fanatic, but when they do really well, when they have a message, or when they say something, I’m always grateful for it.” Ironically, Tim and Eric’s comedy is noticeably absurd and against the concept of message. However, comedian values can vary depending on the genre. After all, “Key & Peele” was ridiculous, but Peele offers a deep message to his terrifying traits. Similarly, Zach Cregger has started an edgy joke about “Whitest Kids U’Know,” but today the audience is still unleashing the layers of meaning behind “barbarians” and “weapons.”
Can Heidecker and Wareheim line up next as the comedian has turned to masters of suspense? This will be the duo’s second feature film, following the 2012 Tim and Eric Billion-Dollar Film.
