The first weekend update of “Saturday Night Live” season 51 touched on several pop culture topics such as Diddy’s verdict, Trans People from J.K. Rowling, and AI actress Tilly Norwood, and there was no punch.
“It was reported that Hollywood’s major talent agency is interested in signing a new generation of AI actress named Tilly Norwood,” co-anchor Colin Jost said. “The AI generation actress got her start after holding a hotel meeting with AI Harvey Weinstein.”
Later in the segment, “Harry Potter” character Dobby the House Elf (played by Bowen Yang in Wild Makeup) was brought to talk about J.K. Rowling’s Emma Watson’s Twitter takedown and frequent social media posts for trans people.
“Master Rowling did a lot for Dobby and in general include,” Yang said. “After the book came out, when Dumbledore was gay, and when Hermione was black only on Broadway, and when Jung Chang…hmm, when he was Cho Chang Asian, I don’t remember if the character named Cho Chang is Asian…”
The weekend update duo also broke Diddy’s sentence this week, with co-anchor Michael Choi saying, “Shawn Combs was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday. To be honest, it’s hard to enjoy watching my loved one get punished.
“In Sean Combs’s sentence, he pleaded for mercy and said he disliked what he did, was shameful and sick,” Choi continued. “In fact, just thinking about it makes him more difficult than Grandma’s candy!”
