Janet Caperna said she recently suffered from acute gastritis and colitis, which caused her to lose nearly 20 pounds in 12 days.
In comments published Friday, the “Valley” star told the Daily Mail that he was admitted to the hospital twice after he couldn’t stop vomiting after a night of holiday cheer with family and friends.
Caperna told the media that he initially thought it was food poisoning.
“It’s usually caused by something like food poisoning, but it just wreaked havoc on my body,” she explained of the diagnosis.
“It felt like my internal organs were being squeezed out and hot glass was moving inside me.”
The 36-year-old Bravo star felt he would “never get relief” from his suffering due to his serious illness. “If a baby takes a sip of water, they’ll throw up,” she revealed.
Caperna, who has been on The Valley since its first season in 2024, also said she felt the need to explain her appearance after losing a significant amount of weight.
“I can’t just go back to normal life without saying anything because I look like I’m not feeling well. If I post something on Instagram, people are going to be like, ‘Are you okay?'” the reality star said.
“I don’t want to glamorize looking like this because I look really sick.”
Caperna shared a clip of herself on Instagram discussing her “severe health concerns” that left her in “constant pain” and “not being able to eat.”
“The last two weeks have been pretty tough as I ended up with acute gastritis,” she wrote in the caption, adding that she will “probably be pretty unhealthy for the next few months” as she tries to gain weight back.
She also revealed that she is on the road to recovery. “I’m finally starting to feel much better and am so grateful to my family and friends for helping me get through this,” she wrote.
Her husband Jason Capana supported his wife and co-star in a comment thread.
“I’ve seen how hard the last few weeks have been for you – the fear, the fatigue, the setbacks – and I couldn’t be prouder of the strength you’ve shown through it all,” he wrote. “You never stopped fighting. I love you so much. Brighter days are ahead.”
On the “This Side of the Hill” podcast, the Bravo personality confessed to consuming too much alcohol and other excesses during the holidays. That included “eating a third of a cheese wheel on Thanksgiving.”
“The doctor basically said my stomach and intestines were inflamed because I put things in there that didn’t agree with my body,” she recalled.
Over a year and a half after the birth of her son Cameron in 2023, Janet previously achieved dramatic weight loss through diet and exercise.
“I feel like I’ve worked really hard over the past year to lose weight in a really healthy way, going to Pilates and eating mostly at home,” she told the Daily Mail.
“Instead of jumping on Ozempic to lose baby weight, I did it the hard way,” she added.
“I used to be physically strong, muscular and very happy with myself. But now I just feel like a pile of bones.”
