The 1974 film “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” was a turning point for fear. The new documentary opening “Chain Reactions,” which opened in New York City via Dark Sky on September 19th, is a documentary about the five creative impacts of Alexandre O. Philip’s film.
King is not a stranger in horror, but says he was late for the film but rocked him because of the gritty look and feel.
“I should say I’ve never seen the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ when it came out,” King says. “I saw it in Colorado in 1982. I was a young father, writing to go ahead with Bill Collector. I was mostly in the theatre myself. That’s when films really tend to get cold fingers under your skin. There’s no art about it, so the cemetery doesn’t have the character nuance.
