Duchess Kate’s latest earring choice is a gentle nod to her firstborn, Prince George.
The Duchess of Cambridge attended the annual Armistice Day service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Tuesday, following last weekend’s Remembrance Sunday.
For the event, she chose a black Catherine Walker double-breasted coat with military-style embroidery on the chest. She had pinned to her shoulder a brooch in the form of a paper poppy and an Irish Guards badge (she was appointed colonel of the regiment in December 2022).
This is the coat she wore on Remembrance Sunday in 2019 and 2023. Previously, her two hats were made by Philip Treacy.
This year, she paired her outerwear with custom Gianvito Rossi boots.
Under a Jane Taylor wide-brimmed hat ($2,884), her hair was tied back in a braid, revealing ruby and diamond cluster drop earrings.
The earrings feature diamond studs with two diamonds underneath, followed by a traditional halo around a central ruby.
These earrings are a new addition to the Princess’ jewelry collection. She has worn it twice in public so far, once in May to watch a military march commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and again during a visit by President Trump and first lady Melania Trump in September.
Prince George accompanied Middleton to the memorial service on Saturday, marking the first time this year that Prince George has attended a memorial day. At 12 years old, he is the same age as his father, Prince William, when he first attended.
Ruby is the birthstone for July, and Prince George was born on July 22nd. So Middleton’s choice to wear the earrings seems to be a nod to her son’s rise to a public role in the royal family.
Her decision to wear it in May was the same show of support that saw the young prince join her at a tea party at Buckingham Palace honoring World War II veterans.
