Prince William’s feud with his uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly stemmed from the former royal’s “disrespectful” comments about his nephew’s wife, Duchess Kate.
In his royal biography The Rise and Fall of the House of York, author Andrew Rowney claimed that the late Prince Charles fully supported his father Charles III’s decision to strip Andrew of his royal titles and honors due to his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“He[William]also hates Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah[Ferguson]and can’t wait for the day when his father abandons them both,” the Daily Mail newspaper quoted a source quoted in the book as saying.
The book continues: “If Charles doesn’t do that, I guarantee you the first thing William will do when he finally becomes king is evict them.”
The author also noted that William, 43, was upset that Andrew, 65, and Ferguson, 66, attended the Duchess of Kent’s funeral in September.
“William, meanwhile, was ‘furious’ at being ambushed, friends said. He has distanced himself from his uncle and has taken pains to avoid being photographed with him,” Lowney claimed in the book.
“He believes his father did not treat him with enough firmness and that Andrew and Sarah Ferguson did things that undermined the good work of other members of the royal family.”
Andrew’s alleged remarks to Middleton, also 43, have not been made public.
A representative for Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal title by Prince Charles on Thursday, amid renewed interest in his ties to sex trafficker Epstein.
The deprivation of titles applies to the Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh and ‘His Royal Highness’. Honors affected include the Order of the Garter and the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
Page Six has been informed that Andrew is set to move to the private Sandringham estate after being evicted from the royal holiday home.
Meanwhile, Ferguson plans to make his own arrangements. She also lost her title of Duchess of York.
The former couple’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, retained their royal titles amid the scandal.
At the time, Andrew was reportedly “not opposed” to the de facto changes.
Weeks before Prince Charles’ official announcement, the former British naval captain vowed to no longer use royal titles or honors because the ongoing allegations “disturb the work of Her Majesty and the Royal Family.”
“As always, I have decided to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to step back from public life,” Andrew said in a statement.
But Andrew added: “With His Majesty’s consent, I now feel that I must go a step further. I therefore no longer intend to use my title or the honors bestowed upon me.”
Back in 2021, Virginia Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual assault, claiming that he raped her when she was a teenager as part of Epstein’s sex trafficking ring.
She and Andrew settled out of court the following year. (Andrew has denied any wrongdoing.)
Before her death in 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her son Andrew of his military titles and patronage.
