Not even a brain bleed or broken ribs from a bull can stop Johnny Knoxville.
The new Jackass movie will be released in theaters on June 26th through Paramount Pictures, Variety has confirmed.
In an Instagram post, Knoxville vaguely hinted that the series would return to theaters in the summer, but declined to confirm that it would actually be Jackass 5 and not a re-release of a past project. This post was jointly uploaded by Knoxville, the official Jackass account, and Gorilla Flix, the production company founded by Jeff Tremaine.
The caption reads: “Well, wands and hot doodles. We’re starting the year with a bang. We want to let you know that ‘Jackass’ is back this summer!! See you in theaters on June 26th. More details to come, but we wanted you to hear from us first!!”
The new movie comes four years after Jackass Forever, in which Knoxville was lit up by angry bulls, Danger Ehren was doused in honey and confronted by a black bear, and Steve-O’s genitals were covered in bumble bees. The fourth film featured most of the original aging Jackass stuntmen and pranksters, but also welcomed newcomers such as Zach Holmes, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Jasper Dolphin, Eric Manaka, and Rachel Wolfson.
Other than Knoxville’s involvement, the cast for Jackass 5 has not yet been announced. Fans are unlikely to see the return of original team member Bam Margera, who was removed from the fourth film due to a breach of contract regarding drug abuse. He recently told reporters, “They couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do ‘Jackass’ again.”
“Jackass” began as a television show on MTV and expanded into a decades-long film series. The audience, which was once comprised of immature teenagers, is now comprised of immature middle-aged adults and a new mass of immature teenagers. In his 2022 review of Jackass Forever, Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote: “Johnny Knoxville is now 50 years old, Steve-O and Chris Pontius are 47, Dave England is 52, and Wee Man is 48, but they and the rest of the team have not shirked their mission to create and stage what is basically the stupidest and most elaborate frat house hazing stunt in the world.” They have a youthful masochistic zeal that is somewhere between psychotic and religious. The fact that they’re still doing it in middle age means they’re no longer fighting for the right to party. ”
It will continue…
