The Meltdown, the sequel to Manuela Martelli’s acclaimed feature debut 1976, has entered international sales with Losange Films ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin.
Set in post-dictatorship Chile in 1992, “The Meltdown” is a mystery drama that begins in a remote hotel near a ski resort in the Andes. Nine-year-old Ines befriends Hanna, a 15-year-old German skier, while staying with her grandparents. When Hannah disappears without a trace, a search for her begins to uncover the hidden truth. Starring Maya O’Rourke, Saskia Rosendahl (Babylon Berlin), and Maia Rae Domagala.
Martelli is a promising Chilean actor-turned-director whose debut film 1976 premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2022 and has since been screened at major international film festivals, including San Sebastian and the Emerging Directors/New Film Festival. The film won multiple awards and recognition, most notably being nominated for the BFI’s Sutherland Award and the DGA Award for Outstanding Directing Achievement in a First Feature Film.

Losange Films’ prestigious productions include Albert Serra’s “Out of This World” and Gu Xiaogang’s “The First Taste of Loneiness,” both of which are in post-production. The company, whose international sales division is headed by Alice Resort, will hold the market premiere of “Hugo,” directed by Pascal Bonitzer and starring Fabrice Luchini, at EFM.
