Spoiler Alert: Details for “The Masked Singer” Season 14 Episode 4, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night,” which aired on FOX on January 28, are below.
Cowabunga, hey. “The Masked Singer” unveiled its latest masterpiece on Wednesday’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night.” Unmasked in this episode is comedian Claudia Oshley of the popular Instagram account @GirlWithNoJob and podcast The Toast.
Oshley ended her time as Queen Corgi after performing Sia’s “Unstoppable” on this week’s episode. (She previously sang Barbara Streisand’s “Don’t Rain on My Parade” in the season 14 premiere episode.) However, instead of being eliminated, Queen Oshley/Corgi announced that she was withdrawing from the competition.
Oshry told Variety that she decided to leave the show after realizing that the time commitment was impacting her role as a new mother. “I moved my whole family there,” she said. “I had a 4-month-old at the time. I was exclusively breastfeeding. I was pumping in my trailer, but it started to take its toll. I was spending a lot of time away from my baby. That wasn’t what I expected. It was fun, but I didn’t want to continue and get the wins I deserved and spend time at home with my baby. In the end, after a few performances, I decided that my dream had come true. I had sung on national TV and I had done what I was supposed to do, so at that moment I thought, “I can go out there and let someone else win.” And go out gracefully. ”
Given the episode’s unusual ending, panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora didn’t even have final predictions. Previously, Chung thought it was Amy Schumer, Ora guessed Ali Wong, and Thicke thought of Whitney Cummings.
Oshry said she informed the producers of her desire to leave early, but the panelists were not informed. “I can tell you everyone has been very supportive,” she said. “The producers, the executives, the people I was working with were mostly women. One of them was pregnant. So I felt like I was talking to people who understood, and they really tried to put me at ease. They told me this was an option. And I thought, ‘That’s it.’ You know what? I think it works for me. I don’t want to disrupt the flow of the show too much because they know how it works. But I also just wanted to prioritize my experience and myself. And I think we kind of finished the story. ”
This is the second time “The Masked Singer” has decided to unmask rather than wait for elimination. In season 4, Mickey Rourke decided to remove his costume himself after a performance.
The night, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, kicked off with Chung singing along to the series’ theme song. So, coincidentally, songwriter Chuck Lorre will receive a check from the show.
Galaxy Girl, Stingray, Cat Witch, and 14 Karat Carrot join Pugcasso, Snow Cone, and Crane to advance to the next round. Still waiting for their turn: High Voltage, Calla Lily, Owl, Eggplant.
Claudia Oshley (Queen Corgi) joins Taraji P. Henson (Scarab), Tone Locke (Handyman), Tiffany Haddish (Le Fou Fou), Todd and Julie Chrisley (Croissant), and David “Big Papi” Ortiz (Google Eyes) as celebrities who have previously revealed their identities on Season 14 of The Masked Singer.
Season 14 will see the return of host Nick Cannon and panelists McCarthy Wahlberg, Chung, Ora, and Thicke.
New this season is “America’s Insider,” where singer, dancer and social media personality Kylie Cantrall shares behind-the-scenes hints and tips with viewers. Twist: Cantrall wears a cat witch costume, but only removes her mask for the viewer. So the viewers know who she is, but the panelists don’t.
“The Masked Singer” Season 14-themed episodes include homages to “Star Trek,” the ’90s comedy “Clueless,” the comic book series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the blockbuster movie “The Twilight Saga.” Fox’s new “Fear Factor” reboot will also feature “Fear Factor: House of Fear Night” host Johnny Knoxville, and “Ozzfest Night” will honor the late rocker Ozzy Osbourne, including a special tribute by “The Masked Singer” alum Kelly Osbourne (Season 2’s Ladybug) paying tribute to her father’s musical influence.
Season 14’s 18 masked contestants include Eggplant, Pukasso, Queen Corgi, Croissant, Owl, 14 Karat Carrot, Snow Cone, Galaxy Girl, High Voltage, Gyoggly Eyes, Scarab, Handyman, Crane, Le Fou, Pangolin, Stingray, Cat Witch, and Calla Lily.
According to the show, the season 14 contestants have sold a total of 94 million records, earned 47 Teen Choice Award nominations, 12 Emmy nominations, two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one Tony Award win, and one Academy Award nomination.
