Peter Green’s family and friends held a private memorial service for the “The Mask” star on Dec. 27, Page Six has revealed.
Some of Greene’s closest friends, including “The Sopranos” stars Federico Castelluccio, Vincent Young, Saul Stine and Gary Pastore, New York actor and musician Scum Dust and film producer Noel Ashman, were among the small crowd of “35 to 40” people who gathered to pay their final respects at St. Michael’s Church in Cranford, New Jersey, sources said.
Castelluccio, who co-starred with Green in the 2019 film “Exit Zero,” gave an emotional speech in which he called Green “one of the greatest character actors of his generation,” and brought tears to both him and the audience, according to sources.
“Everyone shared the story, everyone broke down in tears. People loved him like a brother,” the source said.
Green was born in 1965 near Montclair, New Jersey.
Greene was found dead in her apartment on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on December 13, at the age of 60.
Green’s longtime manager Greg Edwards said the late star was “in good spirits” the last time they spoke two days before his death.
His friend of 27 years, Scum Dust, also said he was looking forward to seeing Green celebrate New Year’s Eve.
“He was going to rent a truck limousine and Peter’s vision was to go bar hopping, restaurant hopping. He wasn’t suicidal,” Scum Dust said.
Ashman, who hosted the New Year’s Eve celebration with Green last year, said he is looking forward to the second round.
“(His death) was definitely a shock. I was planning to meet him on New Year’s Eve. No one expected anything like this,” he said.
Ashman cast Green in his new movie “Three Days Rising,” co-starring Ice-T and Mickey Rourke, scheduled for release in 2026, and described him as a “once-in-a-lifetime friend.”
“He was an amazing person…He was very talented and had a lot of work to do in acting. We lost a true talent of our generation,” Ashman said.
Police said no criminal activity was suspected, but the cause of death would be determined by a coroner, the Post previously reported.
Neighbors said that when they found Greene, he was lying face down with “blood everywhere.”
At the time, one friend said the actor’s friends were “always worried” about his past drug use. “He tried to get clean and return to normal, but was unable to kick afterwards,” they claimed.
(Green never shied away from his past drug use, even speaking candidly about attempting suicide in 1996.)
We previously reported that Greene’s inner circle is seeking answers about his death.
The source admitted, “There was definitely some trauma to the body,” but added, “There’s a lot of speculation. We don’t know yet, but the only thing is that there was trauma to his body.”
