Paramount Pictures has tapped James Wan to direct a “reimagining” of “Gangsters, Cops, and Demons.” Dong Lee (Ma Dong-seok), the star of the critically acclaimed original Korean film, is also attached to the project.
Wan has directed several hits, including “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “Saw,” many of which were spurred into series. He recently directed “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” about his return to Atlantis, which exploded at the box office. Wang also produced “M3GAN” and “Mortal Kombat.”
In the original version, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, which premiered at Cannes in 2019, gangsters and cops team up to trap a serial killer.
Brian Helgeland, the Oscar-winning writer of “Mystic River” and “LA Confidential,” will serve as the original story and executive producer, and Shay Hatten (“Resident Evil”) will write the screenplay. Wang will produce the film with his company Atomic Monster along with Michael Clear.
Don Lee also produces with Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller through Big Punch Global, through Balboa Productions, with Chris Lee through B&C Group, and with BA Entertainment CEO Jang Won-seok.
