DreamWorks Animation has assembled a high-profile voice cast for its animated adventure “Forgotten Island,” scheduled for release in 2026.
Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, H.E.R., and Lisa Soberano (“Lisa Frankenstein”) are among the stars lending their voices to the film.
Plot details have been vague so far, but the newly revealed logline asks an emotional question: “What would you do if your best friend for life forgot everything about you? The love, the joy, the pain, the memories and experiences you once shared.” The story revolves around two best friends who are stranded in the fantastical world of Nakali and realize that the only way out of the mysterious “forgotten island” may be to sacrifice a lifetime’s worth of memories.
“The Forgotten Island” is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado and produced by Mark Swift. This will be the third collaboration between Crawford and Swift, who previously worked on “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “The Croods: A New Age.” This film marks the directorial debut for Mercado, who also contributed to “Puss in Boots” and “The Croods.” Nathan Matthew David (“Joy Ride,” “Brothers Son”) provides the score for “The Forgotten Island.”
Universal plans to release the film in theaters on September 25, 2026. DreamWorks Animation’s recent work includes last year’s sleeper hit “The Wild Robot,” this year’s box office hit “The Bad Guys 2,” and the remake of “How to Train Your Dragon.” The studio is currently producing Shrek 5 and the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon 2, both of which are scheduled for release in 2027.
