“Saturday Night Live” alum Leslie Jones will guest star on Season 1 of CBS’ new comedy “DMV,” the network announced Monday. Other guest stars scheduled include Zoe Lister-Jones (The Slip), Chelsea Frye (The Paper), former WNBA player Renee Montgomery, and Jessica Camacho (Countdown) will also appear in a recurring role.
“DMV” first aired on Oct. 13 and returns tonight for a second episode. The show, which airs Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET, is a single-camera comedy set in the fictional “East Hollywood” branch of the Land Transportation Board, where, as the logline says, “employees deal with frustrated customers for minimum wage before they even walk in the door.”
Starring Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, Tony Caballero, Molly Carney, Alex Tarrant and Gigi Zumbado, “DMV” was developed by Dana Klein and inspired by a short story by Katherine Haney. The show already has seven more episodes ordered for a full season, bringing the total to 20 this year.
Jones will play Sally in an upcoming episode of “DMV.” “An energetic and proud executive assistant to the director of the California DMV. Our character meets Sally and Barb (Molly Carney) on a road trip to a DMV holiday party in Sacramento, and Sally hits it off and shares her love for all things DMV.”
Lister-Jones will guest star as Dr. Jacobs, a “qualified surgeon who has finally found the time to get his license, but is not at all happy that it’s taking so long.” Fry plays Amber, a childhood friend of Colette (Dyer). Amber is a “currently incommunicado actress who is visiting the DMV to get a real ID.”
In a recurring role, Camacho plays surfer Mary. “A confident, carefree lover who meets his girlfriend Noah (Tarrant) while taking a driver’s license test.” Montgomery will also make a cameo appearance.
Jones’ new comedy special, “Leslie Jones: Life Part 2,” premieres this Friday, Oct. 24, on Peacock. Lister-Jones’ credits also include “Beau is Afraid,” and Frei (represented by Paradigm and Untitled Ent.) also appears in “Poker Face.” Camacho’s other credits include “All Rise.” Montgomery is a co-host of “Women’s Sports Now,” a TNT basketball analyst, and co-owner and vice president of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.
They all join previously announced guest star Randall Park (“Fresh Off the Boat”), who will appear in an upcoming episode as rival North Hollywood DMV manager Bo Young.
CBS Studios produces “DMV,” with Klein, Matt Coon, Aaron Kaplan, Wendy Trilling and Robin Meisinger serving as executive producers. Trent O’Donnell executive produced and directed the pilot from a script written by Klein.
