‘The Big Bang Theory’ star Kunal Nayyar secretly pays medical bills for families in need.
“Money has given me a lot of freedom. The greatest gift is the ability to give back, to change people’s lives,” Nayar said in a December 2025 interview with iPaper.
“We also support animal charities because we love dogs,” he added about himself and his wife Neha Kapoor. “But what I really want to do is go on GoFundMe at night and pay for random families’ medical bills. That’s my masked vigilante job! So, no, money doesn’t feel like a burden. It feels like a blessing from the universe.”
Nayyar explained that his wealth does not become “heavy” because he can donate anonymously to worthy causes.
The actor, who played Raj Koothrappali on the hit series for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019, has a net worth of $45 million, according to Fortune magazine.
In a December interview, the actor explained that he believes more happiness comes from more generosity.
“Right now people are not happy because we all expect someone to be kind to us,” he told the outlet. “We hope that a president or a politician or a leader will come and bring world peace.”
He added: “There can be no peace in the world if your neighbor comes to your door asking for sugar for his tea, locks the door and says, ‘Get out.'”
He also argued, “No one is going to change the world for you. You have to change the world yourself.”
The resurfaced interview has caught the attention of social media users after a hugely successful fundraiser for the family of the late James Van Der Beek, which has raised more than $2.6 million since his death on February 11th.
The “Dawson’s Creek” star’s wife, Kimberly, and six children “face an uncertain future” after his death and find themselves “lack of funds” for expensive cancer treatments, according to a GoFundMe page.
Realtor.com later reported that the Varsity Blues star purchased a rental property in Texas a month before his death, but his agent told Page Six that he did so with the help of a friend.
“James secured a down payment for a Texas ranch with the help of a friend through a trust to help his family transition from rent to mortgage,” they told us.
Van der Beek’s fundraising efforts were championed by celebrities such as Donna Vivino, many of whom pointed out her high medical costs in social media comments.
