Hannah Ann Sluss shares the financial realities of childbirth in a candid video.
The 29-year-old Bachelor star shared a video on her TikTok on Tuesday, Dec. 23, in which she got honest about the toll of giving birth to her first child, son Lucas, in the hospital. “I gave birth to my little boy a month ago and received the hospital bill,” Sluss began the video. “I wanted to know exactly how much it would cost.”
“I checked in Wednesday night, picked him up early Thursday morning, and left by Friday afternoon,” she explained. “It was very quick. Starting in the delivery room, it was $8,366 (and) the second bed in the OB was $5,850. I think that’s the postpartum room they put me in. That’s pretty expensive for one night.”

She went on to say that she was charged $3,681 and quipped that her hospital room was “the most expensive hotel room” she had ever stayed in.
“I don’t know why I did this to myself, but after I gave birth, I remember the nurse asking me if I wanted Motrin,” Sluss recalled. “I had already had an epidural and I was like, ‘I want to detox everything.’ A few hours later I started getting really bad pain down there and I was going crazy.”
Sluss explained that she suffered a second-degree tear after giving birth to her son, Lucas, which caused the pain. She added that there is a $3,000 fee for operating room services and a $473 fee for laboratory hermatology.
“$372 for lab, $235 for IV fluids, $20.93 for medicine and pharmacy, that must have been Motrin,” she continued. “Total fee is $22,000.92. We paid $104.”
She went on to say that the hospital bill also included the cost of an epidural, which cost $7,500. Although it was quite expensive, Sluss said he would have paid “whatever it takes” because it was “so worth it.”
“I haven’t received the bill (for Lucas) yet. I don’t know, but will they do something different? Yes, this is how much it costs to have a baby in the United States,” Sluss said.
On November 24, Sluss announced that she and her NFL player husband Funk, 27, were expecting their first child, sharing the news on Instagram.
The new mom shared a photo on her Instagram Stories after returning home from the hospital, writing that the couple has been in “newborn heaven” since welcoming their baby.
“We’ve spent the last few days at home soaking in our newborn heaven. Will share more soon 🥹,” she wrote on a photo of the couple’s dog wearing an adorable “Big Brother” bandana.
In June, Sluss and Funk revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that they were expecting their first child. The couple, who tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Italy in June 2023, said at the time that they were expecting a baby in November.
“We found out what we expected during our trip to Dubai,” Sluss tells PEOPLE. “It was such an unexpected and pleasant surprise! This moment is one we will cherish forever. We will be sharing Jake’s reaction video soon. It was so funny!”
