Teyana Taylor is well versed in the joys of cooking.
The singer and actress were opened up to Marie Claire about her recent decision to enroll in culinary school, saying she was finding an experience of “very therapeutic.”
“I’m very excited. Literally, as soon as I get off this interview, I go straight to class. I’m wearing a coat and in a uniform. “It’s always been my passion. I’ve always loved cooking. It was very therapeutic for me.”
The Escape Room singer said embarking on her latest career path is a way to “see for yourself” despite her professional venture and personal schedule.
“I don’t have time to do that, but I do have time to show up for me,” she told the outlet. “That’s because you’re doing for you, because it’s a passion that turns you into a purpose.”

Taylor announced her decision to subscribe to Instagram videos in July. This featured Glorilla’s dance to “lett her cooking” wearing an apron and a chef’s hat. The Apron featured the School of Culinary Arts logos at Auguste Escofier School, offering online and in-person classes in Boulder, Colorado and Austin, Texas.
In the caption in the post, Taylor wrote that culinary school was “a dream I’ve carried in my heart for so long.”
“I was a little girl so I remember being glued next to someone in the kitchen while the other kids were playing!” she wrote. “To see all the wonderful women in my life, we cook all our favourite meals with so much love and joy.
The “Gonna Love Me” singer said she was called “Hood Betty Crocker.”
“Through every twist and turn of my life and career, the kitchen was a safe space. So, while earning a degree in culinary arts and pastry arts has always been my goal, it’s important to go back to school in my time, as my crazy workplace schedule, mom’s life, merely life, life, life, life, life I write about. “No matter how busy a life is, I find comfort in all of its rhythms: chopping, mixing, creation.”
Taylor says she pursues the art of cooking and pastry and believes she introduced Alexis Welch Stodemia to the August Escofier School.
“seeeeeeee, @ecapoperoomalbum wasn’t the only thing auntey cooked uppppppp!!!” she wrote. “It’s instantly true to add a chef to my long resume.’
Taylor released her fourth album, “Escape Room,” on August 22nd. The album marked her for the first time in five years after announcing that she had retired from music in 2020.
