Teresa Palmer has been cast in the “God of War” series, which will air on Amazon Prime Video, Variety has confirmed with sources.
Palmer becomes the show’s newest cast member after it was announced that Ryan Hurst will star as Kratos. Amazon did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment on Palmer’s casting, but sources say she will star as Sif. In the game, Sif is Thor’s wife and one of the chieftains. Interestingly, Hearst provided the voice for Thor in the game God of War: Ragnarok.
Palmer is primarily known for his work in film, appearing in films such as “The Fall Guy,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Grudge 2,” “I Am Number Four,” and “Night of Cups.” On television, she has appeared on shows such as “A Discovery of Witches,” “The Clearing,” and “Mix Tape.” She will next be seen in the Australian series ‘The Family Next Door’.
Mr. Palmer is repped by CAA, Management 360, Shanahan Management in Australia, and Sloan Offer.
As previously reported, the series will pick up the storyline from the two most recent God of War games, where Kratos must raise his 10-year-old son Atreus. According to the logline, “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of his wife and mother Faye. Throughout their adventure, Kratos attempts to teach his son to be a better god, and Atreus attempts to teach his father how to be a better man.”
Amazon’s “God of War” movie adaptation has already come a long way. The show was originally greenlit for the e-commerce giant’s streaming arm in 2022. Original showrunner Rafe Judkins left the show in October 2024, with Ronald D. Moore joining as the new showrunner shortly thereafter.
Moore is the writer, executive producer and showrunner of God of War, which is owned by Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E.O. Toy will direct the first two episodes. Tall Ship’s Marilu Davis will also serve as executive producer along with Corey Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Kizilbash, Jeff Ketchum, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Aragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lottier and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers on the series. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Tall Ship has an overall deal with Sony TV.
Deadline first reported Palmer’s casting.
