“Tehran” producer Dana Eden has died while filming season 4 of the popular Apple TV+ series in Greece. She was 52 years old.
The cause of her death has not been confirmed, but Shula & Donna Productions, the production company that founded Eden with Tehran producer Shula Spiegel, is trying to dispel rumors that her death was politically motivated. “The production company would like to make clear that rumors suggesting a criminal or state-motivated death are false and completely baseless,” the statement said.
Eden is one of Israel’s most famous producers and has received tributes from across the media and political world. “We are saddened by the passing of Dana Eden, a friend and partner of the Israel Broadcasting Corporation’s many years of productions, series and programs. Dana was one of the leading figures in the Israeli television industry and was central to the creation and leadership of some of the corporation’s most famous and influential productions,” Kan, the Israeli public broadcaster who co-produces “Tehran,” said in a statement (via Kan News).
“The fourth season of the series (‘Tehran’) is currently being filmed in Greece, a complex and important work that Dana has come to closely monitor. Her professional work, uncompromising dedication and love of creation left a deep mark on the Israel Broadcasting Corporation. We hereby wish to share the deep condolences of her family, friends and colleagues, and embrace her dear partner and friend Shura Spiegel.”
Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar wrote to X: “It is with deep sadness that we hear of the passing of Dana Eden, one of the most prominent and influential producers in Israeli television. Dana left a deep mark on the creation of Israel and brought our story to the international stage with pride, talent and courage. I share the sadness of her family, friends and colleagues. May her memory be blessed.”
“Tehran” follows the adventures of Tamar (played by Niv Sultan), a Mossad operative who attempts to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb. The series is set entirely in Iran, with Greece as a stand-in for the Middle Eastern country, and much of the dialogue is in Farsi. Season 3, which began airing globally on Apple TV+ in January, has reportedly been delayed because the plotline is very similar to real-life events that have unfolded in Iran over the past year.
Greek police are reportedly investigating Eden’s death to rule out anything suspicious.
