The next big-screen adventure from the Turtle brothers Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo will be released in theaters a little earlier than previously planned.
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Mutant Mayhem 2, will be released on August 13, 2027, one month earlier than the announced September 17 release date.
Mutant Mayhem 2 is directed by Jeff Lowe and co-directed by Kyler Spears and Yashar Kasai. Rowe and Spears worked on the first film with fellow producers and screenwriters Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Rounding out the producing team are Point Gray’s James Weaver, Josh Fagen and Ramsay McBean, with Lucas Williams serving as executive producer.
The TMNT brand has been a top priority for Paramount in recent years, and the focus on the timeless IP has only increased under Skydance’s new management. The first Mutant Mayhem movie was released in August 2023 and grossed $181 million worldwide. But Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies were already so bullish on this new twist in the 40-year-old series that they began developing a sequel before the film even hit theaters.
Last year, Paramount added the untitled live-action/CG animation hybrid film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to its calendar for November 17, 2028. This is the first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie since 2016’s Out of the Shadows.
And earlier this month, Paramount announced plans to expand the TMNT series through several ventures, including a major toy licensing partnership with Mattel (starting in 2027), a picture book for middle schoolers (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splinter’s Dojo), a novel for adults (based on the best-selling graphic novel The Last Ronin), and a digital series for preschoolers (Teenie). Mutant Ninja Turtles (for YouTube) themed pizzerias have opened in Santa Monica, Monterrey, Mexico, and São Paulo, Brazil.
