Taylor Townsend had her little one by her side after a severe loss.
On Sunday, August 31st, the 29-year-old professional athlete spoke at a press conference following his match against Barbora Krejčíková at 2025 US Open. Townsend, who lost to Krezikova in the quarter-final match, revealed that his son, Addin Aubrey Johnson (AJ), is cheering up after her loss.
“I told AJ, ‘Wow, you were staying there the whole time. It was over three hours. He was sitting there,” Townsend said of her four-year-old son. “When she was on a toilet break and talking to the coach, he said, ‘If you needed anything, I got you, asked me.’ I was like, ‘It’s okay.’ ”
“So it’s nice to be able to get that,” she continued. “I was in the cooldown area and he was like, ‘Mom, let’s exercise together.’ I said, “I just don’t play 3 hours.”

When he asked her if she wanted to do a squat, Townsend confirmed that her son knew she was OK.
“And I actually said that because I wanted to know what he was saying. He’s like, ‘Good job, mom.’ I said, “Thanks AJ, I lost.” He said, “It’s okay.” “I was like, ‘That’s the attitude.’ So I’m trying to make that into reality. ”
Last week, after Townsend won a second round match against Jelena Ostapenko, the tennis player appeared to have won a heated debate with his opponents after Townsend won 7-5, 6-1.
According to Athletic, the exchange began after 28-year-old Ostapenko told Townsend he was sorry for the shot that had cut out the top of the net but remained in the play known as Netcode.
In post-match footage shared by ESPN, Townsend doesn’t need to say “No, I’m sorry” afterwards. A violent boo from the crowd blocked the sound from the players, but Ostapenko was then able to see her fingers pointing at Townsend repeatedly.
Ostapenko seemed visibly confused and shook her head many times when the argument continued. Once the exchange was over, Ostapenko appeared to tell Townsend three times, “You’re not educated.”

According to BBC Sport, the microphone on the court picked up Townsend to “take an L (loss)” to Ostapenko.
Speaking about what happened in a post-match interview with ESPN, Townsend said, “People get upset when they lose. Some people say bad things.”
Townsend, ranked number one in doubles, claimed that Ostapenko, from Latvia, “I look forward to it to see what happens when I arrive outside the US without classes, without education.”
“I mean, I beat her in Canada. Outside the US, I beat her in New York (inside) the US, so let’s see what else she has to say,” she added.
