Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine has had a successful year of celebrity fame since Page Six Style exclusively revealed in August that she designed Taylor Swift’s engagement ring.
On Oct. 3, Swift revealed on “Heart Breakfast” that the seed was planted more than a year and a half ago when she showed fiancé Travis Kelsey a video of her job as a jeweler.
“It turns out he was just paying attention to everything. When I saw the ring, I (gasped),” Swift said at the time. “I was like, ‘I know who made it! I know who made it! I know who made it!'”
During an appearance on Friday morning’s “Today” show, Lubeck said, “Oh my god…the fact that she recognized my work was such an honor. She said, ‘I know who made it.'” That was the most exciting thing when I heard her say those words. ”
“I think this is just something I dream about happening to me…it’s incredibly surreal,” the 30-year-old designer explained, adding, “I have pinch moments every day…I feel so honored.”
The talented Lubeck, whose entire inventory is currently sold out on her website, only started making jewelry a few years ago.
“I think 2021 was the first time I took a sculpture course. I was immediately bitten by it and completely hooked… I was just hooked,” she said.
“It’s very Zen-like. Starting sculpting is a very meditative experience for me.”
And although jewelry design is in her blood, “the fact that I joined this business was a surprise… but it was the most natural thing in the world,” the jeweler said, adding: “I have a picture of my baby sitting in a chair in front of my father’s bench…but I have a degree in psychology.”
Lubeck’s talent lies in hand carving, which allows her to put her unique signature on her pieces. She also has a passion for antique stones.
Swift’s ring highlighted the growing popularity of antique stones, which are perhaps the most sustainable gemstone option when purchasing jewelry.
Lubeck brought a ring containing another vintage mine-cut diamond to the “Today” set and explained its unique qualities.
“As you can see, this cut has large, wide facets, whereas the modern cut resembles a disco ball. It’s very sparkly, whereas the older cut has just a little bit more…a wider flash. That creates this romantic delicacy.”
Now that Swift is in her ultimate dazzle, could we see an Artifex Fine Super Bowl ring for her other half? Lübeck would be happy to build something up.
“I will! Yes, absolutely,” she said.
