In today’s episode, variety show Rebeccarubin breaks down Taylor Swift Effect into box office revenue as the album release party for “Life of a Showgirl” hit multiplex only on weekends. Gordon Cox, the legitimate editor of variety, explains how the 10 Broadway stars settled in this year’s selection to watch the list.
Rubin strips out the impressive statistics that Swift is once again surprised and celebrates her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, working with AMC Theaters to celebrate only AMC Theaters. For one, it says that the marketing campaign is primarily run through Swift’s own social media handle.
“There’s definitely a lot you don’t know. If we announced this a month ago, if we could make more money, we would have sold tickets a month ago. But we’re said we’ve made around $46 million worldwide in just three days,” Rubin said. “And that’s because it’s pretty minimally promoted outside of her social media feed. That’s not that there was this epic marketing push from the studio behind it.
For Johnson and A24’s “The Smashing Machine,” hardcore fans weren’t enough for them.
“Without Taylor Swift, this would have been a really, really dark weekend at the box office, as the ‘Smashing Machine’ was bombed for $6 million and headed for the weekend. This is Dwayne Johnson’s lowest weekend of his career. Or “fast and ferocious.” And while this role was much more and more dramatic in the Art House Lane, it was at odds with how the audience knew him. ”
Cox walks the eclectic choice of variety to see Broadway’s 10 stars. This list is often about recognizing people who have worked on Broadway for several years and rising to a new level of publicity. Cox points out Director Lileana Blaine Cruz as a perfect example.
Blain-Cruz was on Broadway previously. A few years ago, she produced Thornton Wilder’s “The Skin of Our Tide.” This is surreal and very strange. And some people loved its production, some people weren’t too excited about it. Because it’s a strange show. I’m one of those people who loved it, and she’s making what I think now is going to be a really big Broadway splash with the new musical adaptation of “Purple Rain” that she’s working with Tony’s victory Branden Jacobs Jenkins. He is one of our best playwrights. And if someone is going to do something really funny by rethinking the “purple rain” and the film’s story, it will become Branden and Liliana on this list. ”
