In an interview with Zane Lowe, Taylor Swift talked about her song “Wi$h Li$t” and how dating Travis Kelsey helped her dream of marriage and having children. “When I met Travis, I started to feel a little bit like maybe I could be a romantic freak,” she said. Swift spoke about her fiancé in multiple interviews this week.
Travis Kelsey profoundly changed Taylor Swift’s life, and his influence started as soon as she met him, the singer told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.
The Life of a Showgirl artist discussed her song “Wi$h Li$t,” in which she expressed her dream of having a family with a real partner. She sings in the chorus, “All I want is you/A few kids/The whole block looks like you.” In the third verse, she adds: “I wish upon every star / Please, God, bring me my best friend who I think is wonderful / Once, twice, I thought I got it right, but I didn’t / You caught me off guard / I hope I get what I want (Get what I want).”
Swift admitted that before she started dating Kelsey, she doubted whether she could really desire such things. But the deeper the relationship, the more she realized she could really fantasize about that future. Because I felt like I could do it with him.
She explained, “When I met Travis, I started to feel a little bit like maybe I could be a person who could have romantic whims and have these dreams.” She continued that the verse of the song “Wi$h Li$t” was “so fun and interesting to write, but in the chorus it becomes very sincere.”
Swift added, “I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie ‘Happy Gilmore,’ but he has a happy place where he goes into a utopia, which is exactly what he wanted, a place he mentally escapes to in times of stress, pressure, anxiety, confusion. And the chorus of that song just describes to me what my happy place is.” (Fun fact: Kelsea was in Happy Gilmore 2, which Swift praised on Instagram.)
The star talked quite a bit about her fiancé in an interview last week. She told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show last night, “He’s my favorite person I’ve ever met. I mean no offense to anyone else. But the fact that this is the person I’m going to be with every day forever, that’s what it’s all about. When I look at it (the engagement ring), I think, ‘I’m going to spend forever with him and this represents that.'”
