Tate McRae returns to MTV VMA after being nominated for Best Pop and Best Choreography Award for her “Greedy” Music Video last year. She stepped onto the red carpet wearing a completely thin white dress. This was a custom look from Ludovic de Sancernin, with a pair of sandals with platform heels.
The 22-year-old pop star has had a big year in her career. Her third studio album, So of What to what, arrived in February, following the success of her viral 2023 single “Greedy” and its follow-up hits “Exes” and “2 Hands.” Known for her keen choreography and high-energy performances, McRae has recognized her comparisons with Britney Spears as “honor” throughout her career.
This is not the first time McRae has made an impression on the carpet of a VMA. At last year’s show, she wore a black lace Roberto Cavalli minidress, paying homage to Spears’ iconic Dolce & Gabbana ensemble from the 2001 VMA.
“Indeed, the VMA’s appearance was a tribute to Britney, a million percent,” McRae told Harper’s Bazaar in a February 2025 interview. “I thought she looked really stunning in that dress.”
McRae was the first to join the VMA in 2020 as the best new artist candidate and performer. “I can’t wait to play,” McRae told E! Before the show. “This is the first time I’ve combined my first TV debut to dance and sing and singing in a performance. It’s surreal to do that on MTV.”
McRae is now starting her Miss Owner Tour less than a year ago, enveloping her Think Later World tour.
She says she wants this new era to lean even further towards fashion and dance. “I definitely want to lean a little more fashion for this tour,” the singer told Harper’s Bazaar. “What I’m forcing is to write down the beats or write things that are triggered to the part of the dancer feel, so you can do that on tours, because those are my favorites.
