SZA is back. The artist returns to the Grammy Awards tonight with nominations in several major categories. Although she was not seen on the red carpet, she could be seen in the audience during the broadcast of the ceremony. During one skit, she appeared behind Trevor Noah and Bad Bunny wearing a plunging red dress with floral embroidery.
She ended up on stage with Kendrick Lamar, producers Soundwave, Jack Antonoff and others to accept the award for Record of the Year for “Luther.”
At this year’s awards ceremony, SZA was nominated in five categories: Best Song of the Year for “Luther,” Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Crybaby,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “30 For 30.”
These days, fashion has become a more selective but very intentional part of SZA’s public presence. Earlier this month, she made a rare return to the fashion week circuit, attending the Louis Vuitton and Dior men’s shows in Paris. Her stylish front-row seat featured a tailored blazer and crisp button-down, offering a sophisticated menswear look.
On stage, SZA continues to use her wardrobe as an extension of her performance. For Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show last year, he wore a monochromatic red look that included a Bone x Raised leather jacket and lace-up leather pants. At last year’s Grammy Awards, she skipped the carpet, but was later spotted inside the venue wearing a baby pink sequined dress.
Despite her outward confidence, SZA reflected on the emotional reality of being in the spotlight in a 2023 interview with ELLE. “Some people think it’s an act that means I have anxiety, or that I’m shy, or that I struggle with self-esteem,” she says. “Everyone else has emotions and fears. Why am I not afraid of being famous?”
