Sydney Sweeney is beating a “rigorous” regimen that helped her lose 30 pounds in less than two months.
In an interview published Monday, she explained to People magazine that she gained weight by “eating a lot of food” for her new boxing movie, “The Christie.”
In an effort to slim down, the 28-year-old stopped working out and cut out all the protein shakes she was “taking” for the Christy Martin biopic, resulting in her losing all the muscle she had built up.
“It’s the first thing you need to do before you gain weight,” she explained. “So it fell within two weeks.”
She was “taking a lot of creatine” for the role, but “all it did was make her belly bloat,” so she “stopped doing it all” once filming was over.
The rest of the Emmy nominee’s weight loss journey included a “super clean” diet and “a lot of cardio” to regain her typically slim figure.
Sweeney, in particular, had only seven weeks to begin filming the third seasons of “The Housemaid” and “Euphoria.”
“I had to get really hard on myself,” she told the outlet.
After declaring that “this might be the only time” he’s changed his appearance so much for a role, the “White Lotus” alum quipped that he’s grateful that his “metabolism is working really well.”
“I’m not saying this is super easy,” she insisted. “But I’ve been a very active person all my life. For example, I was a very active child. And I’ve always been active and my metabolism has always been good. Sometimes I gain weight, but sometimes I lose it.”
Last year, when unrecognizable photos of Sweeney on the set of the movie “Christie” began to surface, trolls body-shamed her online, but she responded with a striking video.
In December 2024, the “Handmaid’s Tale” alum shared an Instagram video featuring several mean screenshots from cyberbullies, calling her “too blue,” “cranky,” and “your average pudgy Yankee girl.”
The clip then cut to footage of Sweeney’s intense training for the role, from tire flips to cable pull-ups.
A source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the physically demanding role helped Sweeney find his inner strength.
“Sydney has had a lot of experiences in the past with people who have abused her,” the source said. “This person took advantage of her, including financially.”
Playing Christie “gave her the strength to remember who she is,” the person added.
In October 2024, Sweeney announced his role in the David Michod-directed biopic in an emotional statement.
“I’ve been training hard to bring to life the story of an amazing woman, a true champion who fought in and out of the ring,” she wrote on Instagram. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength and hope, and I am honored to stand in her shoes and share her powerful story.”
Despite the film’s box office flop, Sweeney recently assured his social media followers, “We don’t always make art just for the numbers, we make it for the impact.”
