“Superman” jumped into HBO Max on September 19th, with author-director James Gunn announced on his social media page. The film has earned $615 million at the box office worldwide over the summer, making it the best-selling comic book film of all time.
Warner Bros. released “Superman” in theaters around the world on July 11th. During the opening weekend, the comic book Tent Pole won $125 million at the domestic box office, and maintained the number one film in the world for two weeks until Marvel’s “Fantastic Four: First Step” was taken away by it at the end of the month.
James Gunn’s “Superman” is Warner Bros.’s first film. Rebooted DC Universe. Headed by Gunn and producer Peter Safran, DC Studios creates interconnected films and series based on the brand’s renowned comic book characters. It’s Warner Bros. Following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023, it is the second attempt to create a shared DC cinema universe as an expanded universe, including titles such as Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Justic Adam, and Gunn’s own Suicide Squad.
“Superman” reopens the universe, with David Corenswet playing the honorable hero alongside Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, Nicholas Holt’s Lex Luther, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Isabella Merced’s Hawkgirl and Eddie Gesaghi’s Telefick. The cast also includes Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gison as Jimmy Olsen, Sarah Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Paine Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, Neva Howell as Bradley Cooper as Joroel, and Alan Twock as Superman’s robot. Also featured are Supergirl from Milly Alcock and Peacemaker from John Cena (the only character who was badly carried from the DC Extended Universe).
On HBO Max, “Superman” will take part in other DC titles such as “Penguin” and “Peace Maker.”
