Director James Gunn has released footage of Jason Momoa playing the antihero Lobo in Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow.
A video posted to Instagram on Friday shows Momoa emerging from a movie trailer with his fangs bared. “Finally,” he says to the camera before heading to the set. The video then cuts to official footage of Momoa’s robot from the upcoming superhero movie.
Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon actor Millie Alcock as the eponymous hero (also known as Kara Zor-El), is the second movie in director Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, following 2025’s Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Yellow Hill villain Clem and Eve Ridley as Lucy Mary Knoll. Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries) wrote the screenplay, based on the DC Comics series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Momoa’s casting was announced in December 2024. At the time, the “Aquaman” actor confirmed the news by sharing a quote from a 2023 interview with Fandango.
“I collect comics, and I don’t collect as much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I always wanted to play Robo, because I was like, ‘Hello? That’s the perfect role,'” he said in an interview. “I mean, listen, if they called me and asked me to play him, that’s bullshit. I didn’t get that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I’ll be there.”
“Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow” will be released in theaters on June 26th.
