Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have completed a new, several-year, global film distribution agreement that begins with the “Street Fighter” film set in the upcoming fall.
Under a three-year contract, Paramount is legendary developed to sell and distribute theatrical films worldwide. (PACT excludes China, where legendary East handles all marketing and distribution activities.) After closing its $8 billion merger with Skydance, news of the talk was broken last month as Paramount made a deal, closing out the recent box office gross, including Dune: Part 2, and this year’s smash hit, “Minecraft Movie.”
“The legend has built a reputation for ambitious and globally fascinating films. We are excited to partner with them. “Street Fighter” is the perfect start to our collaboration.
“The partnership with the teams of David, Dana, Josh and Paramount marks exciting new chapters of legend as they continue to pursue diverse growth strategies: expanding production, building new franchises, creating films for global audiences.” “This partnership is an extraordinary opportunity and we look forward to working closely with Paramount, a story that will captivate and inspire film fans around the world.”
Outside of the new agreement, Warner Bros. will continue to distribute some legendary franchises, such as Dune: Part 3, which is currently in production and is due to be released in 2026.
As mentioned earlier, the first film within Paramount-Legendary Pact is the legendary “Street Fighter,” co-produced with Japanese video game developer Capcom. A live-action film based on a highly popular and successful video game franchise is currently in production and boasts a starry cast including Noah Centino, Andrew Kozy, Karina Leanne, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jason Momoa. The project was originally scheduled to be released under Legendary’s distribution agreement with Sony Pictures, which expired in 2024.
“Street Fighter,” directed by director Kitao Sakurai and filmed for IMAX, will be released in theaters on October 16th, 2026. The film was set in 1993 and as officially outlined, “Eliminating Street Lights Ryu (Koji) and Ken Masters (Centineo) next Chun frutious for rucku (combat) tournament: Clash of Fist, Fate and Fury is behind the Royale, and they will face the demons of the past!”
