Steven Soderbergh talks about the unproduced Star Wars movie, The Hunt for Ben Solo.
After aspiring star Adam Driver revealed the project in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday, the “Ocean’s 11” director told Blue Sky that it “wasn’t fun” to hide the project from fans, but stressed the importance of keeping it secret.
“Just so you know, I didn’t like lying about the existence of THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO, but it really needed to be kept a secret…until now!” Soderbergh wrote on Monday.
Friday added, “Also, in the aftermath of the HFBS incident, I asked Kathy Kennedy if LFL had ever greenlit a completed film script to Disney and had it rejected. She said no, this was the first time.”
“The Hunt for Ben Solo” was scheduled to take place after the events of “The Rise of Skywalker,” and would follow the driver Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo, in search of salvation. Driver called the unproduced film one of the “coolest” projects he had ever been a part of.
Soderbergh previously told The Associated Press about the development of “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” saying, “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m disappointed that fans won’t get to see it.”
On Friday, Collider reported that a group of “Star Wars” fanatics paid for a plane with a banner that read “Save Ben Solo” to fly over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. Reporters for the outlet were able to snap photos of the stunt while on location.
