Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Baté first met at Stanford University in the 1990s and have been going strong ever since.
The Paradise actor, 49, revealed his relationship secrets during a live taping of That Was Us, a rewatch podcast of the Emmy-winning series This Is Us, on Saturday, January 17 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.
Discussing the marriage and eventual divorce of This Is Us characters Kate and Toby with former co-stars and That Was Us podcast co-hosts Mandy Moore and Chris Sullivan, Brown opened up about why his marriage to Batte, 49, has lasted nearly 20 years.
“We’ll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary (in March),” Brown said. Brown eloped with Barte in 2006, and they had a lavish wedding a year later.
“My wife is the love of my life, not because it’s always easy, but because we keep choosing each other. You know what I’m saying? So even if we’re not perfect for each other, we still can choose each other and we just choose to be perfect for each other.”
Brown, who played Randall on This Is Us, met his longtime girlfriend while he was a student at Stanford University in the ’90s, and they dated on and off during college, before breaking up after graduating in 1998.
