Stephen Colbert slammed Kristi Noem after Donald Trump announced plans to fire her secretary of homeland defense and replace her with Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin. Meanwhile, President Trump announced that Noem “will be appointed special envoy to the Western Hemisphere.”
“Looks like someone is trying to be FIFA’s Secretary of Homeland Security,” Colbert joked in a March 5 monologue, a nod to the fake peace award that FIFA awarded to Trump last year.
“It’s too early to know exactly why Kristi Noem is gone,” Colbert continued. “Before we learn any further information about what happened, I want to say with absolute certainty: She’s a domestic terrorist who should go to Gitmo…They say that’s not true, but you know what? I acted on the information I had at the time.”
Colbert appears to be accusing Noem of falsely claiming that Alex Pretti “committed an act of domestic terrorism” while explaining why a federal Border Patrol agent shot and killed him in Minneapolis in January. Federal agents also killed American Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this month, further fueling public anger against Noem and the Department of Homeland Security.
Noem’s firing was cause for celebration among many in Hollywood. Jimmy Kimmel also skewered her in his March 5 monologue, quipping, “You know, the funniest thing would be to deport her to El Salvador.”
“I think I speak for all of us when I say we wish Christie the best of luck with her brand new, completely made-up job,” Kimmel also said. “It’s interesting. Trump is said to have been particularly dissatisfied with Nomu’s testimony claiming that he signed a $220 million ad campaign featuring Nomu wearing various costumes, rounding up immigrants, and appearing in commercials on horseback. Trump claims he knew nothing about it, even though we all knew all about it. But you know, he doesn’t watch much TV.”
