Stellan Skarsgård admits giving out parenting advice is “dangerous”.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of Sentimental Value on November 5th, the 74-year-old actor explained why he doesn’t give parenting advice to his children, most of whom are also actors.
“I’m not giving them any advice at all because it’s very dangerous,” the father of eight told the Directors Guild of America in West Hollywood.
“Because if they take my advice and succeed, it’s my fault; if they take my advice and don’t succeed, it’s my fault. So it’s a lose-lose situation.”

Stellan is the father of Alexander, Gustav, Sam, Bill, Aja, Baltar, Ossian, and Korbjorn, six of whom are also actors.
The Swedish actor welcomed six children with his first wife, Mai Skarsgård. After divorcing in 2007, Stellan married Megan Everett Skarsgård in 2009 and welcomed Ossian in 2009 and Korbjorn in 2012.
At least four of Stellan’s children have children of their own: Alexander, 49, Gustav, 44, Bill, 35, and Aja, 33, and Stellan is a grandfather.
Stellan details his favorite part of being a grandfather, telling PEOPLE, “It’s seeing the characters and seeing how different they are.”
She added: “It’s amazing how different people can be even though they have the same genes. All eight of my children are also very different. They have some things in common, but they’re all unique.”
