Stavros Halkias has joined the cast of Judd Apatow’s new comedy film directed by Glen Powell about the free fall of a country music star.
The comedian and “Bugonia” star will play Powell’s character, an agent, in the untitled film, which Universal Pictures is scheduled to premiere on February 5, 2027, sources tell Variety. The film will be directed by Apatow, who co-wrote the screenplay with Powell.
Halkias joins previously announced cast members Cristin Milioti and Madeline Cline. The comic rose to fame as a founding member of the podcast “Cum Town” and currently hosts “Stavvy’s World.” In 2023, he released the Netflix special “Fat Rascal,” and the following year he wrote, produced, and starred in the film “Let’s Start a Cult.” He starred in Steven Soderbergh’s sci-fi series “Commando Z” and will next appear in the A24 Anthony Bourdain biopic “Tony.”
Apatow has produced untitled country music films through his long-standing Apatow Productions overall agreement with Universal, and made his directorial debut, “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” in 2005. The studio is also home to Apatow’s “Knocked Up,” “Funny People,” “This Is 40,” “Trainwreck” and “The King of Staten Island.”
Powell, whose relationship with Universal began with the hit disaster movie “Twisters,” is producing with Dan Cohen through his Barnstorm banner. Kevin Misher, who previously served as production director at the studio, will produce through his Misher Films. Mischer oversaw the production of films such as “Erin Brockovich” and “Hamunaptra.” Eric Byers and Jacqueline Garrel will oversee the project on behalf of Universal.
Halkias is repped by UTA and Shrek Rose Dapello.
